Introduction to IRC:

Welcome to the World of the Internet Relay Chat (IRC). Internet is a great facility, which enables you to communicate with people from all around the world through your PC. Wow, isn't it really something great!?. We can have a tour through all parts of the world and talk to anybody we like, at any time, just by sitting at home in front of this little screen!.

Well, let us concentrate at using Internet for communicating with people. If you have a Sound Card installed in your PC with speaker and microphone connected plus the data/voice modem, then you can enjoy your free time the way you love to. Hmm..nothing difficult and nothing is secret here!, it is just you decide what you want to do. Have a look at Internet Phone to know more about chatting by voice.

You don't have to have a Sound Card to be able to chat with people. Hmm...How come!?. Well, it is very easy, you can chat through typing. That is, you type what you like to tell the people you want to chat with and just press on the Enter button to transmit it. Your message will be sent to them in parts of a second and they will reply to what you said in the same way. It is a fast way of talking and communicating with people. It is much more enjoyable than chating by voice, because you have a wider freedom here to say whatever you want and you can hide your personality if you like and can even talk to more than 6 to 10 persons in private at the same time.

You can talk to a large number of people at the same time or talk one to one in private. When saying in private, it means no one else will be able to know about what you two will be saying. So you can talk to anyone in whatever subject you like in secret, without anybody else knows anything about it. You can always save all that you and your partner say for later reference or in case you want to blackmail your partner in the future. You can have different names, by which people will know you. However, you always can get ride of heavy people by changing your address or your user data. Then no one can find you out, because anybody can have any nickname if not been taken by somebody else. But you always can make up new nicknames the way you like it.

In irc, there is a large number of channels. Each channel might have a different topic and different people from the different parts of the world. For example, me and my friends keep in chatting in #Oman and welcome anybody who joins us there, Almost every country has a channel on irc. This means you might meet people from your town and whom you did not meet since ages in your country's channel if you join (just join #Country). You can date your family or your friends at anytime and meet each other on irc, at any channel or make up your own channel. This will save you lots loads of money which you might spend in your phone calls (hmmm..that is if you care of your family of course.). You can learn how to make your own channel, how to choose your nickname, how to chat in private, how to type colored letters, how to fight people and lots more as soon as you start using irc. You can always email me at Arabia@gto.net.om to get more help about anything you need.

How to join IRC?

Yeah, here you go. It is the time you must plane which system you are going to choose for chatting. I mean, you can use different software for chatting according to the operating system you work on. For example, you can join irc using UNIX system or Windows. You can use other systems too, but you first need to look for the software designed for that specific system. I normally join irc through my Windows 95 system. So I use a software called mIRC. MIRC scripts are much easier and better to use than shell scripts (i.e. UNIX). In using mIRC, you can easily talk to more than 7-10 people in private at the same time and you can even talk to many channels too. However, you will have lots of troubles in doing that with shell scripts. But shell scripts are much more important than Windows scripts for guarding the channels. We always need programs (Bots) to run continuously in the channel in order to own the channel forever. Otherwise anybody else can come into the channel and claims that it is his/her channel. Well, having our own Bots guarding the channel means that we have full power to govern the channel. This is how we operate our channel. So we are called Operators. We join our channel and chat there for long hours and of course we welcome anybody who joins our channel and invite everybody to visit us there.

IRC Servers:

IRC servers are the servers, which we use as our window through which we communicate with others. You have to make the right choice of a server in order to join the group of people you world like to meet. For example, there are lots of Efnet, IRCnet, Dalnet, Undernet and other groups of servers. Here, Efnet is a group of different Efnet servers which you might use to join our channel (#Oman). You may use another server and join a channel called #Oman but get surprised that we are not there and people different than us are operating it. Yeah, this is right. Me and most of my friends use Efnet servers to meet each other in #Oman. So each group of severs form a band of communication. Therefore we have different bands known as Efnet, Dalnet, Undernet, and others. So you will need to use a Efnet server to join our #Oman. You might try servers like efnet.demon.co.uk, irc.lightning.net and others.

Channel Oman (#Oman/Email oman@arsenal.corp.kern.com):

Yes, we operate #Oman on irc. We try our best to operate #Oman in a way that all our visitors will enjoy their stay and chat. We are cool people, like to enjoy our free time and make lots of new friendships with people from all around the world. We believe that Internet is a great means for turning this huge world into a little town where everybody knows each other. Anybody can get in contact with whoever interested in making friends. Just imagine how beautiful it will be when you have friends everywhere and in all parts of the world. Will not it be beautiful and nice that when plan to visit any country in the world, you will have people there who knew through internet for long times and want to meet them there. You can meet them to strengthen your friendship and you will meet a good and warm heart to welcome you in a foreign country. At least, you can make sure that there will be someone who will care about you if you get any problem.

I have made 100s of friendships through irc and I am proud of all my friends. We did not limited our friendships to internet only, but we always planed to meet each other in real life. I have met a lot of my irc friends in real life and enjoyed my friendship with them and they mean a lot in my life now. If you are a friendly person and are interested in making friends from all around the world then you must try using irc. I am sure you will enjoy it and learn a lot from your irc friends. Well, it is not limited to making friendships!. You can make all kind of relationships you like to have. Plus you can get a lot of experience through the discussions you will have on irc.

IRC means a place where you can meet people of all ages, from all parts of the world, with different backgrounds, from different societies and different cultures. So you will meet lots of people who you met never heard of. It is a great way for you to explore the world and learn everything through this little screen. Your contact with people who belong to different backgrounds and different societies will give yoa especial idea about them and the. You can get help from them in whatever subject you need help in. For example, I am mosprin irc with the nicks Mido, Daddy, BigDaddy, Highness and sometimes with some other nicks. You can always contact me there and ask me for any help you need.

Anyhow, you are most welcome to email #Oman at anytime to give suggestions or have any complaints or like to know more about it.
